The SATA hard drive portfolio is categorized into two categories: Entry (ETY) and Midline (MDL) hard drives. HP SATA Entry hard drives are the lowest unit-cost solution for entry level servers. Designed for economical reliability and performance for non-mission critical applications, Entry and Midline SATA hard drives provide the best price advantage for these lower workload environments. These hard drives are available in Small Form Factor (2.5in) and Large Form Factor (3.5in) for both hot plug and non-hot plug environments.

Designed and Engineered to Provide Reliable and Cost Efficient Data Storage.
Increased Midline drive reliability of approximately two times that of Entry drives based on a <40% workload. Lowers cost without sacrificing reliability with Enterprise class hard drives at the lowest $/GB. Cost optimized and capacity optimized solutions that provide up to 3TB storage in a single device. Available in 2.5in (SFF) and 3.5in (LFF) form factors in a wide variety of capacity points. Rotational Vibration Sensors: Enhanced rotational vibration tolerance provides Enterprise class reliability in a Midline drive. 3Gb'sec data transfer rate supporting existing servers. New 6Gb'sec data transfer rate exclusively for HP ProLiant Gen8 servers, with new hot plug carrier design.

Midline SATA offers customers the lowest $/GB drives and increased features over Entry SATA.
Increased reliability of approximately two times Entry drive reliability based on <40% workload. Detects a specific temperature threshold, drive throttles performance to protect itself. Improved rotational vibration robustness for immunity to environmental rotational affects. Native Command Queuing (NCQ), Buffer Error Detection, Time Limited Error Recovery (TLER), Microcode Download and 3Gb's compatibilty. Ship with a standard one year warranty.

SATA Applications.

With the attractive low acquisition cost and high capacity points of SATA drives it is important to understand the appropriate applications where SATA drives should be used. Proper usage (IE <40% workload) of these drives will lessen the probability of drive failure. For high IOP's performance intense applications, mission critical applications or extreme environments HP recommends Enterprise Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) hard drives.
